Erwan Fouéré asked me to make a family book for his mother’s 99th birthday.

Together we made a book of her travel journals and holiday photographs going back to the 1970s. He asked for 100 copies, and I thought he must have a lot of people in his family. I met him again after “Travels with Marie-Magdeleine” was finished, and he told me he’d organised a memorial service for his mother – sadly, she had since passed away. He’d given copies of the book to many of her neighbours in Connemara, and they were all looking at it and reminiscing about her life.

“I was thinking about recognition of a life, and how does one honour one’s family? I researched into the travel diaries kept by my mother, and became convinced of the importance of preserving these memories in a manner which would be easily accessible and could be enjoyed by future generations.

The book is being enjoyed by the family, by many friends who knew my mother, and even by friends who have not met my parents.
